For the third year running, Sheffield Photographic Society took on the organisation of the Photographic Section for this prestigious and popular event in Sheffield's refurbished Botanical Gardens.
Tony Pioli from Buxton selected 127 images from SPS members and the general public and these were displayed, using the Society's display boards, in a large, heated marquee which we shared with the Botanical Illustration section and a number of their associated stalls. Unfortunately our display was more cramped than in previous years, particularly after we agreed to free up some space for two of the Premier Artists whose tent was blown away in the severe weather on the Saturday!
On Saturday a steady trickle of visitors took refuge from the wind and rain and enjoyed our images but on Sunday the marquee was crowded all day, our stewards being kept busy with sales, questions about photography, and dealing with the large number of enquiries about SPS and its activities. We sold 24 images to a total value of £560. Commission from these sales goes towards Art in the Gardens expenses and the cheque paid each year to charity.
Unfortunately there was not enough space this year to put on our slideshow, but the special display of pictures of Old Sheffield and images from the Society's archives proved popular once again.
Thanks are due to all of the team involved in providing transport, setting up and taking down the boards, displaying the images, lending equipment, stewarding, and all the tasks which go on behind the scenes when putting on a successful exhibition.
