SUMMER OUTINGS PROGRAMME 2013

The meetings are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. but please assemble a little earlier at the indicated places. They are all Tuesday evenings - there is no charge except to those who volunteer to buy a round of drinks afterwards! No limit on numbers but please car-share wherever possible as it often makes parking a little easier. Each evening involves a walk (usually not more than 2 miles) with interesting photo- opportunities and finishes no later than 9 o'clock which is a pity as often the best light is after that!

• Tuesday 21st May 2013 at 7 pm. Cressbrook/Miller's Dale. Leader Paul Cutts
  Getting there - Drive to Cressbrook Mill via Great Longstone and Monsal Head. (Go down the hill and drive along the valley to the mill). Plenty of road side parking by the mill (MR 173727). Allow 20/25 minutes from Sheffield.
  The walk - a couple of options but no longer than 2 miles. Boots, or at the very least good walking shoes, are necessary as the path is often wet or muddy and we may find ourselves walking through a couple of Monsal Trail tunnels as well! (Bring a flash-gun). There's a beautiful lake, limestone cliffs and two excellently restored former textile mills (Cressbrook and Litton). But remember, - every good walk should have a little adventure!!. Afterwards - gather at the Monsal Head pub.

• Tuesday 4th June 2013 at 7 pm. Brincliffe Edge and Nether Edge. Leader Mike McManus
  Meet on Chelsea Road at the entrance to Chelsea Park. Road-side parking no problem. The walk - about a mile and please, walking shoes are necessary. No real hazards but a few steep steps here and there. Woodland first and allotments afterwards with a return along Brincliffe Edge (interesting domestic architecture). Afterwards at the Ale House on Fraser Road. (Fraser Road runs off Archer Road near Sainsbury's with Laycock's Sports Club on the corner).

• Tuesday 18th June 2013 at 7 pm. Broomhill - a Victorian suburb. Leader Peter Mason
  Meet outside the Spar supermarket at Broomhill. Parking possible on the right of Glossop Road (going up) or in Taptonville Road - approach from the top. No special footwear necessary as this is a city suburb walk of no great distance. Photo interest largely Victorian housing and street furniture (Conservation Area) much of it familiar to John Betjeman, Margaret Drabble and Seb Coe. Afterwards at the Broomhill Tavern near the top of Glossop Road.

• Tuesday 2nd July 2013 at 7 pm. Sky Edge - a high point of Sheffield! Leader John Scholey
  Meet at the Supertram stop behind the Midland station. Parking in the city (not in the Sky Edge area) is best in the Arundel Street area (big car park there) or on Paternoster Row. (By July 2nd we may have to pay for street parking up to 8.30pm). Alternatively, you may prefer to park on the Supertram route and use the tram to get to the meeting place.
  The walk will take us from the meeting place up onto Sky Edge where there are magnificent views across the city centre, Park Hill flats, St John's church and loads of graffiti!.
  Afterwards meet at the old Queen's Head pub off Pond Street and by the Interchange.

• Saturday 13th July 2013 Llandudno day trip using coach transport
  Assemble at St Peters at 7.45am ready for departure at 8.00am. One coffee/comfort stop on the way arriving Llandudno at approximately 12.00noon. Own arrangements about food and drink and what to do whilst there. Depart at 5.0pm with one comfort stop on the way back. Back at Greenhill by about 9.00/9.30pm.
  Parking will be available in the car-park at St Peters. Also, there will be plenty of spare seating for the trip. Please bring friends/relatives on the day and they can pay on the coach - £18 per head

• Tuesday 16th July 2013 at 7pm. Gardom's Edge. Leader Linda Jackson
  Meet at the Robin Hood Inn (MR 280722) which is about a mile up the Chesterfield road coming out of Baslow. Park in the public car-park next to the pub. Boots or good walking shoes are recommended. It is about a mile to the edge from the car-park. High points are the Neolithic enclosure and rock art, the edge itself and very attractive birch glades and views over the valley. Tripods could be useful. Mountain marathon enthusiasts could also scramble up onto Birchen Edge before retreating to the pub for nine o'clock!

• Tuesday 23rd July 2013 at 7 pm. Derwent Valley Leader Frank Milner
  Meet at the Heatherdene car-park (MR 202 860). This is on the Bamford Road, half way between the Ladybower Inn and the Yorkshire Bridge Inn. Boots or strong shoes are recommended but walking is on good paths or tracks. Approximately a 2 mile walk with big views over Ladybower, Ashopton viaduct, the dam and overflows, the river Derwent and woodland. A quick run up onto Bamford Edge is also possible for those who are fond of running!
  Afterwards meet in the Ladybower Inn.

• Saturday 27th July 2013 Hull/Beverley day trip using coach transport
  Assemble at St Peters at about 8.15am. for departure at 8.30am. Arrive Hull round about 10.00am. Morning and lunch in Hull and then leave for Beverley at about 2.00pm. Rest of the afternoon in Beverley, leaving no later than 4.30pm. (Fine tuning with the driver on the day). Back at Greenhill by about 6.00pm. Parking will be available in the car-park at St Peters. Also, there will be plenty of spare seating for the trip. Please bring friends/relatives on the day and they can pay on the coach- £15 per head

During the course of the next few months members may come up with information about 'open days', re-enactments, special events etc. which may well be of photographic interest to members. Watch this website and/or announcements at Society meetings.
