Wyming Brook, Tuesday 5th June 2007

Yet again we managed wonderful weather for this outing to a well-known beauty spot much nearer to home. Wyming Brook has been a popular spot for outings and picnics for around a hundred years, since Rivelin Dams were built - the water board built a road round the edge of the dams and up to the top of Wyming Brook, and the area appears on early postcards, showing far fewer trees than there are now. The sun shone beautifully but of course the light was much lower in the valley, which faces north.

SPS members gathering by the lower Rivelin Reservoir The reservoir in the evening sunshine Canada geese Walking up Wyming Brook valley The ferns are a great feature The stream and ferns More ferns - very photogenic There was still sunshine at tree-top level Rock formation near the top of the valley Concentrating hard Crossing the stream at the top of the valley Still in the sun at the end of the walk Adrian Richardson has supplied these images that he took during the evening Unlike most other members he brought along a tripod, which was very useful in the low light. More ferns and water The water and ferns look very good in the low light No trouble getting long enough exposures to blur the water! More ferns and water Keith Allchin has provided these four images, and his own captions. This one is called Pool Homage to Ray Brightman Art or a mistake Reflection of Kate
